“Ruth Hopkins and Duncan Appleby are true artistic partners who bring an imaginative theatrical vision to the vocal recital.”

Duncan’s range of skill is huge, playing collaborative recitals and solo piano concertos, and singing choral music and Bach solos with equal finesse and assurance.

Piano

With piano work including chamber music festivals, solo and duo recitals, and concerto performances, Duncan’s emotional and musical performances are not to be missed. Recently he has performed song recitals with Ruth Hopkins (K’antu Ensemble Artistic Director), and worked with prize-winning singers, and Samling Artists.

Voice

Recent singing appearances include the solos in Bach St John Passion with Brockenhurst Choir, the Messiah solos in Sussex, and a Dowland lute song recital in London. Duncan frequently sings in many church services and choral society concerts where his extraordinary sight-reading ability comes to the fore.

Passionate and patient teacher and coach

Duncan’s particular focus as a teacher and coach is releasing the expressive potential that exists (sometimes hidden) within everyone. Two aspects of this focus are a compassionate approach to de-emphasise the moral component of making mistakes, and an analytical study of the elements of expression which often arise organically in lessons. Coaching and lessons with Duncan are fun and creative.
